Digital Matatus is pleased to be working with the French Development Agency (AFD) and a strong network of collaborators from within the open data community on "DigitalTransport4Africa".
This is a collaborative effort to build a resource center and networks to support data creation and use in planning for African transport systems. Such data creation must focus on paratransit, because, with its multitude of operators, this complex system forms the bulk of transport in most African cities that serves the majority. Such data creation must focus on paratransit, because, with its multitude of operators, this complex system forms the bulk of transport in most African cities that serves the majority. Digital technologies present a tremendous opportunity to improve paratransit services and planning, a necessity if we are to meet the Sustainable Development Goal 11 target for transport. Yet little data has been collected on these systems to develop win-win schemes.
Through efforts like Transport4Cairo, Accramobility, DigitalMatatus and all the network members gathered in Paris, this is changing. Digital Matatus is proud to be part of DigitalTransport4Africa and looks forward to collaboratively building a resource center and network to move this critical work forward in support of "access to safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all" in African cities.
